As the holiday decorations come down, you may feel a familiar sadness as you see your home lack the life that the holidays bring and the brightness that the spring season will eventually bring forth. The winter months can be a drag, but that doesn’t mean our homes have to feel sad, cold and empty. As we kick off 2025, we’re bringing you trend insights for the winter season and some of our favorite products to help you breathe life into your home this winter.
LAYERED TEXTURES
One of the simplest ways to add warmth and coziness to your home is by adding (and layering) textures that evoke a sense of comfort. Chunky knit blankets, hide rugs, and velvet throw pillows are a couple of examples of layered textures that can add depth to your bedroom or living room. We’re seeing a big focus on “hygge” — the Danish concept of slow, cozy, comfortable living. You can easily implement this feeling with soft, plush, and comfortable accents that give you that warm and fuzzy feeling.
AMBIENT LIGHTING
You may already know that the “big light” is never to be used (at least that’s what the kids are saying online!) While not an actual design rule, the idea remains: we want to use lamps, candles, and other accessory lighting to create an inviting atmosphere, instead of bright, overhead can lights. Especially in the winter months, strong overhead lighting can feel harsh and exposing, while soft, warm, glowy light can make you feel at peace and relaxed. We’re expecting this lighting design trend to stick around this winter.
VINTAGE DETAILS
What’s old is new again in 2025. Antiquing and scouring for vintage items is a rising trend, and we specifically love a touch of vintage in the winter. Items that have a history, have been previously loved, and are worn-in to perfection can evoke a sense of comfort and hominess. Vintage items can remind us of someone, some place, or even a specific memory. That familiar feeling can warm our hearts even on the coldest of days.
WINTER STEMS
Just because the grass is no longer green doesn’t mean there isn’t a place for biophilic design in your home this winter. Biophilic design involves bringing nature into your built environment, resulting in better health, more productivity, and overall wellbeing. Of course, even faux plants can stir up a similar feeling. We’re predicting an increased use in dried flowers, evergreen branches, and preserved grasses this winter. Let’s be honest, a faux bright blue hydrangea arrangement isn’t fooling anyone when there’s snow on the ground. So, we recommend using in-season plants to fill your vases, bringing life and color into the home.
FIREPLACES IN FOCUS
With the increase in time spent inside during the winter months, the fireplace has an opportunity to become the centerpiece of your home. It could be time to re-accessorize your fireplace for more of an impact. The quintessential winter night certainly includes a warm fire and snow falling, so why not add a couple of accessories that make your winter haven stand out? Wood-burning fireplaces especially come with all of the sounds and smells of a cozy fire, and we’re predicting a resurgence of the ‘real deal.’
